Pickup soccer players in Palm Harbor have a new way to get on the field, with Cancha Kings organizing nearly nightly 6-on-6 matches at the Sunderman Complex.
The group uses the covered outdoor field at 1631 Ninth St., bringing together players ages 16 and older for fast-paced games featuring five field players and a goalkeeper on each team.
Organizer Jorge Prada told Tampa Bay Beacons that Cancha Kings has grown from a single Friday night session a year ago to games every evening across multiple Tampa Bay locations.
From Friday nights to a growing soccer community
Cancha Kings began with indoor 7-on-7 matches before expanding into its current outdoor format, Prada said. The shorter games emphasize quick passes, constant movement and competitive play.
The group's OpenSports page identifies Sunderman Complex as its Palm Harbor home and describes the covered playing area as suitable for fast-paced soccer in various weather conditions.
The complex, operated by Palm Harbor Parks & Recreation, also features six baseball fields, batting cages, a beach volleyball court and a covered hockey rink.
Florida Celtic Soccer Club uses the facility for camps, clinics and competitive training, with access to 9-on-9 and 7-on-7 fields and a covered futsal court.
The complex is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.
Games expand across Tampa Bay
Beyond Palm Harbor, Cancha Kings operates at Generations Christian Church in Trinity, Fotopoulos Field behind ABC Pizza in Land O' Lakes and a location in Clearwater.
The Land O' Lakes field is named Franny Granny Fotopoulos Field in honor of Francine Fotopoulos, mother of ABC Pizza owner George Fotopoulos.
Players travel between locations to compete against different teams, with cash prizes available to winning teams. Theme nights inspired by the 2026 World Cup have also helped attract participants.
"Last year, we just started … Friday nights, and now we're here every day," Prada told Tampa Bay Beacons in an Oct. 6 interview. "Because of the community. The idea is and always has been, we're in the community together, let's play some soccer together."
The matches draw teenagers and experienced players, giving local soccer enthusiasts an opportunity to compete without joining a traditional league.
Schedules and registration information for Palm Harbor matches are available through the Cancha Kings OpenSports page.
