A Palm Harbor nonprofit will host a free sensory play session for children with special needs at the Palm Harbor Library on Saturday, Sept. 5.
Little Victories Gym, a 501(c)(3) mobile sensory gym, will run the one-hour session from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. in the library's Palm Harbor Room at 2330 Nebraska Ave. The library's event calendar notes the event is not library-sponsored.
Only 10 spots are available. The organization asks families to register in advance at littlevictoriesgym.com.
The group posted on its Instagram page on Tuesday, Sept. 1, that the session welcomes children across a range of needs, including autism, Down syndrome, cognitive diagnoses and physical disabilities. Neurotypical children are also welcome.
Little Victories was founded by the parents of an 8-year-old daughter named Scarlett, who has Down syndrome. On the organization's About page, the founders wrote that after their daughter's diagnosis, they realized how few local resources existed for children like her. That gap drove them to build what they say is Palm Harbor's first sensory gym serving children with disabilities alongside neurotypical peers.
The gym does not yet have a permanent home. It currently operates as a mobile program, bringing sensory play equipment to community spaces like the library while raising money for a brick-and-mortar location. The nonprofit held its 2nd Annual Hearts for Change Benefit on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 2 to 5 p.m., to raise funds toward that goal, according to the organization's website.
The Fun4SunCoastKids regional family directory lists Little Victories under its special-needs resources and enrichment categories for the Palm Harbor area.
Families can register for Saturday's session at littlevictoriesgym.com. The Palm Harbor Library is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and can be reached at (727) 784-3332.
