Cindy Levarn raised $5,900 for the Suncoast Animal League and won Palm Harbor's annual honorary mayor title, driven by a desire to give back that she says started with a 2018 house fire.
Levarn, owner of Fetch Dog Bar at 530 Alt. Hwy. 19, is listed by the Greater Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce as its 2026–2027 honorary mayor. In an Oct. 13 report by the Tampa Bay Beacons, she described the personal story behind her campaign.
In 2018, Levarn's house burned down. Palm Harbor responded. Local businesses donated furniture, bars held fundraisers, and restaurants sent her family to-go boxes of dog biscuits, she told the Beacons.
"We knew then that this community was something special," Levarn said.
That experience shaped her decision to run in the honorary mayor race, an annual fundraiser organized by the Greater Palm Harbor Chamber of Commerce. The winner is whoever raises the most money for the charity of their choice. Every vote is a donation, so the campaigns raise money while introducing more people to local nonprofits, Levarn said.
She chose Suncoast Animal League, a Palm Harbor-based nonprofit animal welfare organization she has volunteered with and adopted animals from. She told the Beacons that her campaign raised $5,900 for the group.
The honorary mayor title carries no official power. But over the next 12 months, Levarn plans to attend community events, promote local businesses and continue supporting Suncoast Animal League. She told the Beacons she hopes to be "a good ambassador" for Palm Harbor businesses.
Levarn is also a member of the Palm Harbor Moose Lodge, which supports local families, youth programs, veterans and charitable causes.
