Palm Harbor and Dunedin residents have at least seven community events to choose from the week of July 30 through Aug. 5, anchored by a Summer Carnival at the Palm Harbor Library on Saturday, Aug. 1, where all proceeds go to children's programming.

Saturday Lineup Includes Carnival, Market and Live Music

The carnival runs noon to 4 p.m. at the library, 2330 Nebraska Ave., and is open to the public. The event includes carnival games, cotton candy and face painting, according to the library's events listing. Admission details have not been posted; residents can call the library at 727-784-3332 for more information.

That same Saturday morning, the Dunedin Downtown Market opens at 9 a.m. at the Dunedin History Museum parking lot, 349 Main St. The weekly market, managed by Tampa Bay Markets, runs until 1 p.m. and features fresh produce and local vendors. The market operates at the museum lot during summer hours.

Also on Saturday, Aug. 1, Rock The Harbor brings live music, an outdoor market, raffles and giveaways to Crabby Bill's Palm Harbor, 1114 Florida Ave., from noon to 6 p.m. The event runs every first Saturday of the month.

Dunedin Offers Sailing Lessons for Women

Women interested in getting on the water can sign up for Ladies Learn to Sail, a three-week program at Dunedin Youth Sailing, 49 Marina Plaza. Session 2 begins Sunday, Aug. 2, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 16, for three consecutive Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to noon each week. Participants sail prams and can join the Windlasses sailing club. Week Opens with Back-to-School Bash, Grief Support Meeting

The week will kick off Thursday, July 30, with a Back to School Bash at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center, 550 Laura Lane, Dunedin, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. The first 200 school-age children will receive a free backpack and school supplies, plus games, face painting, inflatables and a hot dog dinner.

GriefShare, a support group, meets Friday, July 31, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Alfred's Episcopal Church, 1601 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, in Building D's Parish Library. Contact: 727-785-1601.

The week closes Wednesday, Aug. 5, with a free program on artist Joy Postle at the Palm Harbor Library, from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Author Rick Kilby will share the story of Postle (1894-1989), a prolific painter who documented Florida's natural environment throughout the 20th century. No registration is required.
