Palm Harbor's Nolan Cobb rode his KTM to a runner-up finish in the 85cc (10-12) Limited class at the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, the world's largest amateur motocross race, held at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Cobb, competing under the Mendid MX team banner, posted moto scores of 10-2-1 across three races to finish with 13 overall points. Only champion Beckham Smith of Amarillo, Texas, finished ahead of him, winning the title with 4-1-4 finishes and nine points by a four-point margin.

The Palm Harbor rider saved his best for last.

In the decisive third moto on Aug. 9, Cobb grabbed the holeshot, built a lead of more than five seconds by the halfway mark and held off a late charge from California's Jaydin Smart to win by 1.9 seconds, according to Racer X Online's race recap. Smart had closed to just over a second on the final lap, but Cobb never relinquished the lead. Smith finished fourth in that moto while Levi Geis of Jordan, Minnesota, took third.

His week started rough. In the opening moto on Aug. 6, Cobb was involved in contact on the first lap and dropped outside the top 30 before clawing back to finish 10th, according to Cycle News. He bounced back in Moto 2 on Aug. 7, starting 10th and battling forward to finish second, 9.6 seconds behind winner Smith.

The 85cc (10-12) Limited class is one of the most competitive youth divisions at Loretta Lynn's, which has been held annually since 1982 and draws top amateur riders from across the country. The event ran Aug. 3-9 this year, its 45th edition.

The final podium: Smith first, Cobb second, Smart third.
