Dunedin Fire Rescue's Honor Guard leads a remembrance ceremony at City Hall on Friday, Sept. 11, marking 25 years since the attacks that killed 2,977 people.
The ceremony runs from 8:40 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. on the West Patio of Dunedin City Hall, 737 Louden Ave. The program includes a presentation of colors by the Honor Guard, historical reflections, moments of remembrance, honorary tributes and guest speakers, according to WFLA.
City Reports List Slightly Different Start Times
The city promoted the event in its Sept. 3 DunediNEWS newsletter and listed it as a key date in the August 2026 City Manager's Report. That report labeled it the "Dunedin Fire Rescue 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony." The department, led by Fire Chief Michael Handoga, includes the Honor Guard unit performing Friday's presentation of colors.
The City Manager's Report listed the ceremony's start time as 8:30 a.m., while the more recent WFLA listing published Sept. 8 shows 8:40 a.m. Residents planning to attend may want to arrive early.
The ceremony is open to the public. No registration is required.
Palm Harbor Ceremony Set for 10 a.m.
Residents who want to attend a second local remembrance have another option in Palm Harbor. Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, hosts its annual Sept. 11 service at 10 a.m. Genelle Guzman-McMillan, the last person rescued from Ground Zero, is the featured speaker, as we reported Sept. 7.
The Palm Harbor cemetery includes a section dedicated to the 2001 tragedy, built around a 150-pound piece of steel from one of the World Trade Center towers.
Other Pinellas County Events Set for Friday
Across Pinellas County, additional ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 11. Madeira Beach holds a remembrance at Patriot Park at 8:45 a.m. Treasure Island hosts a memorial walk beginning at 8:46 a.m.
