Brandon Barriera carved through the Tampa Tarpons lineup without allowing a hit, throwing four shutout innings with six strikeouts as the Dunedin Blue Jays cruised to an 8-3 win Tuesday, Aug. 11, at TD Ballpark.

The left-hander's outing was his longest of the 2026 season and the first time he completed four innings since 2023. Only a hit batter reached base against the 22-year-old former first-round pick, who matched a career-high with six punchouts. Heading into Tuesday, Barriera had thrown 6.2 shutout innings with just one hit and 10 strikeouts over his previous starts, according to the team's game recap.

The Dunedin pitching staff held Tampa hitless until the eighth inning.

Shortstop Ryan Cooney added his own milestone, launching a solo home run to lead off the eighth. The ball left his bat at 97.1 MPH and traveled 398 feet. It was Cooney's first professional home run.

The third-round pick out of Oregon signed for $597,500 after hitting .331 in his final college season and has reached base in six of his first seven professional games. Toronto Blue Jays director of amateur scouting Marc Tramuta told MLB.com on July 12, after selecting Cooney 103rd overall, that he is "a really polished hitter who's a contact bat. If the power comes, obviously that would be a bonus."

The power came Tuesday.

Second baseman Dameury Pena also contributed, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in his TD Ballpark debut after being acquired from the Minnesota Twins in the Jeff Hoffman trade.

The win gave Dunedin (50-54) its third straight victory. The Blue Jays sit fourth in the Florida State League West but have momentum heading into the rest of a six-game home series against the Tarpons, the New York Yankees' Single-A affiliate. The series continues through the week at TD Ballpark.
