Palm Harbor University opens district play Friday against unbeaten Alonso, a Ravens squad that has outscored opponents 171-20 this season.

The Hurricanes (2-3) host Alonso (4-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Palm Harbor University High School. The game is PHU's homecoming and the first district contest of the 2026 season for both teams.

Alonso, ranked No. 24 in Florida Class 6A by MaxPreps, brings a dominant offense that averages 374.5 total yards per game. Quarterback Michael Pyne leads the attack with 211.3 total yards per game. Wide receiver AJ Drake adds 115.3 receiving yards per game, and running back Jaikim Haggans averages 81.0 rushing yards.

The Ravens average 42.8 points per game. PHU averages 18.0.

On defense, Alonso has allowed just 20 points through four games, averaging 58.5 tackles and 3.3 sacks per game. Defensive lineman Edreck Vazquez leads the Ravens' pass rush at 1.1 sacks per game.

The Hurricanes carry momentum from back-to-back wins. PHU beat Hollins 47-8 on Saturday, Sept. 19, a week after defeating Parrish Community 26-7 on Friday, Sept. 11.

PHU's offense averages 202.0 total yards per game. Running back Javar McAuley leads the ground game at 75.0 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Ian Filiatreau averages 73.4 passing yards, with receiver Grahm Pitcock hauling in 54.0 receiving yards per game.

Linebacker Travis Clayton anchors the Hurricanes' defense with 11.0 tackles per game. Linebacker Mason Hutchinson averages 0.9 sacks per game. They face a statistical gap: PHU averages 48.4 tackles per game compared to Alonso's 58.5.

The rankings reflect the challenge ahead for head coach Mike Mullaney's squad. PHU sits at No. 58 in Class 6A and No. 326 statewide. Alonso is No. 24 in Class 6A and No. 102 overall. The Hurricanes are 0-2 at home this season, while the Ravens are 2-0 on the road.
