Two of the Toronto Blue Jays' highest-ceiling pitching prospects are finally on the same mound in Dunedin.

Left-handers Ricky Tiedemann and Brandon Barriera are both healthy and pitching at TD Ballpark for Single-A Dunedin after separate, grueling injury recoveries that cost each pitcher more than a full season of development. The Dunedin Blue Jays confirmed the reunion Saturday, Aug. 1, posting a photo of the two arms together.

Tiedemann, a third-round pick in 2021 out of Golden West College, missed all of 2025 after Tommy John surgery. He returned to game action earlier this year with the FCL Blue Jays but was shut down again with neck and shoulder discomfort requiring injections, as Ben Nicholson-Smith reported. He finally reached Dunedin on Sunday, July 26, striking out two batters in one inning while touching 97.7 mph on his fastball. Three days later, on Wednesday, July 29, he was even sharper: a perfect inning on seven pitches, all strikes, with his heater at 97.4 mph.

Through two rehab outings, Tiedemann has thrown two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Both lefties throw gas.

Barriera's path has been rockier still. The 23rd overall pick in 2022 out of American Heritage High School has logged just 27.1 professional innings across his entire career. A torn UCL led to Tommy John surgery in early 2024, and after returning for five appearances last summer, a fractured ulna shut him down again. This spring, Blue Jays pitching director Justin Lehr told The Athletic that Barriera was already touching 98 mph and dialing in his command.

"All he wants is to compete. He's waited a long time to do it," Lehr said in March during spring training in Clearwater. "He's checking all the boxes."

FanGraphs ranked Tiedemann No. 5 in the Blue Jays' system entering 2026 with a 45 Future Value grade. Barriera sits at No. 20 with a 40 FV and a projected 2028 big-league ETA. Both throw left-handed, both touch 98, and both are 40-man roster candidates the organization is counting on long-term. Tiedemann was added to the 40-man ahead of the December 2025 Rule 5 draft.

The Dunedin roster already features top position prospects JoJo Parker, Juan Sanchez, and Blaine Bullard, making it one of the most talent-stacked Single-A clubs in the Florida State League's second half. Barriera's specific 2026 game stats were not available as of publication.

The Blue Jays have not announced Tiedemann's or Barriera's next scheduled start at TD Ballpark.
