The GFWC North Pinellas Woman's Club has awarded $20,500 in grants to 21 local nonprofits, funding everything from hearing aids for uninsured children to weekend food bags for students facing hunger, according to the Tampa Bay Beacons.
The money came from the club's annual Christmas Under the Oaks arts and crafts festival, which returns Sunday, Nov. 8 at St. Petersburg College's Clearwater campus. The club's website calls the 2026 edition the 50th annual event. Admission and parking are free, and the market runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2465 Drew St.
Every dollar of net proceeds funds local scholarships, community grants and service projects.
Seven organizations received $2,000 community grants: Angels Against Abuse, for items for children removed from abusive homes; Community Dental Clinic, for supplies serving low-income, uninsured patients; End 68 Hours of Hunger, for weekend food at Pinellas County school pantries; Homeless Emergency Project, for prescription eyeglasses; Hope Villages of America, for bedding at a domestic violence emergency shelter; Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas, for citizenship classes; and Sounding Joy, for hearing aids for children of low-income families.
Fourteen organizations received $500 member grants. Among them: Dunedin Public Theater, for licensing and equipment for a film program at Elevate, and Sailability, for repairs to a boat used by people with disabilities and veterans. Other recipients included A Mother's Arms, Clearwater Historical Society, Foster to Foster, Harbor Dish, PACE Center for Girls, Pack A Sack, Quilter's Crossing, Selah Freedom, Stop the Movement, Suncoast Voices for Children and The Magic Yarn Project.
Founded in 2003, the club was honored by the city of Dunedin in July 2026 with a proclamation declaring July 11 as "GFWC North Pinellas Woman's Club Day," presented by Mayor Maureen "Moe" Freaney.
Veterans Day Golf Tournament benefits Dunedin kids
Golfers looking to give back have another opportunity the day before.
The 33rd annual Veterans Day Golf Tournament tees off Saturday, Nov. 7 at Clearwater Golf Club, with all proceeds going to the Dunedin Children's Christmas Fund. The fund, chaired by Eddie Michels, has provided Christmas gifts to more than 8,600 children over 25 years.
The tournament starts with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Entry is $100 per person and includes lunch afterward at Norton's on Main Street in Dunedin. Hole sponsorships run $25 each or five for $100.
Entry forms will be available after Sept. 1 at Flooring America, 100 Patricia Ave., Dunedin, or at rocketsports-ent.com.
