Mease Dunedin Hospital generates an estimated $268 million in annual economic activity and supports about 1,390 jobs, according to a BayCare Health System economic impact report released Sept. 9.

The figures, first reported by the St. Pete Catalyst, come from a broader analysis of BayCare's footprint across Pinellas County and Florida. Washington Economics Group, a Coral Gables consulting firm, prepared the report using 2025 data.

The $268 million estimate covers more than the hospital's own payroll and revenue. The economic model tracks how dollars associated with Mease Dunedin move through other local businesses and households, including indirect spending by employees and vendors.

Nearby Mease Countryside Hospital, which serves much of the Palm Harbor and Safety Harbor corridor, accounts for a significantly larger share: an estimated $976 million in annual economic activity and 5,054 jobs. Together, the two Mease campuses represent roughly $1.2 billion in estimated local economic activity.

BayCare operates five hospitals in Pinellas County. Their combined estimated economic activity totals about $4.2 billion. Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater leads the group at an estimated $1.8 billion. Across all BayCare operations in the county, including outpatient and physician services, the total reaches an estimated $5.1 billion, up about 16% from a previous study based on 2022 operations. Pinellas County accounts for about 39% of BayCare's estimated $13 billion statewide impact.

BayCare Medical Group's estimated impact nearly tripled from $757 million in the earlier study to $1.9 billion, reflecting a shift toward physician and outpatient operations that residents across Palm Harbor and Dunedin use regularly.

Even as dollar activity rose, BayCare's estimated job support in Pinellas dropped from 28,486 in the earlier study to 26,510, a roughly 7% decline. The nonprofit system reported nearly 34,000 employees and $6.97 billion in operating revenue in 2025.
