Jake Cook, a Toronto Blue Jays outfield prospect who spent the 2026 season with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, earned a spot on the Mesa Solar Sox roster for the 2026 Arizona Fall League.
"I was really surprised when they told me I was going . . . I'm really excited about it," Cook said in a Dunedin Blue Jays post on X on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Top Prospects Fill Out Fall League
The AFL is a showcase league where top minor league talent from across baseball competes in front of scouts and front-office evaluators. MLB.com's roster announcement lists Cook as the Blue Jays' No. 22 prospect. The league features 12 players ranked among MLB.com's top 100 prospects, according to the Ventura County Star.
Strong Stretch With Dunedin Sealed the Nod
Cook, a 2025 third-round pick out of Southern Mississippi, earned the selection after a strong stretch with Dunedin. Over 31 games from July 7 through Aug. 22, he batted .311 with four home runs and a .907 OPS, according to MiLB game recaps.
Speed Was a Constant Theme All Year
Cook's speed was on display throughout the season. He hit a 414-foot leadoff home run on Aug. 22 at 104.1 mph, the first by a Dunedin Blue Jay all year. In a July 11 doubleheader against Lakeland, he beat out ground balls at sprint speeds of 30.5 and 30.3 feet per second and delivered a two-out, two-strike walk-off single to complete a sweep.
MLB.com's scouting note said Cook "might be the fastest player in the desert this year" but added he will need to improve his all-around offensive game.
Cook Points to Swing Work Paying Off
"It's nice to see the results coming after a lot of work on my swing," Cook said in an Aug. 25 Dunedin Blue Jays post highlighting a stretch in which he batted .364 with three home runs and 10 RBIs over seven games.
Fall League Slate Opens in October
Cook is one of several Blue Jays prospects on the Mesa Solar Sox, which combines players from five organizations. The AFL season opens Saturday, Oct. 3, runs 30 games and wraps with the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 14. The Fall Stars Game is set for Sunday, Nov. 8, at Salt River Fields.
