Dunedin Library Offers Ballot Drop-Off Ahead of Aug. 18 Primary

Dunedin voters with a mail ballot in hand can skip the post office and walk it into the public library instead.

The Dunedin Public Library at 223 Douglas Ave. is hosting a secure ballot drop-off box in its lobby, across from the circulation desk, from Aug. 8 through Aug. 15. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Sundays, when the library is closed.

What's on the Aug. 18 Primary Ballot

The drop-off serves the Aug. 18 primary election, which will decide the Pinellas County Commission District 4 seat, three judicial races and school board contests that affect Palm Harbor and Dunedin families. The County Commission District 4 race is a universal primary, meaning all qualified candidates share the same party registration. The winner Aug. 18 takes the seat outright; the contest will not appear on the November general election ballot.

Three county-run early voting sites also open Aug. 8, with different hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; weekends, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; running through Aug. 16). The library drop-box is a separate, additional option with its own schedule.

All registered voters may cast ballots in the nonpartisan judicial and school board races regardless of party affiliation, according to Florida Politics. Partisan primaries remain closed to voters registered with that party.

Elections Supervisor Urges Voters to Renew Mail-Ballot Requests

"Florida voters have three ways to vote, including the secure method of voting by mail," Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Julie Marcus said July 14, when the county began its mail-ballot rollout. "They must be sure to renew their request and can do so on our website VotePinellas.gov or by calling us 727-464-8683."

Previous mail-ballot requests expired Dec. 31, 2024, under a change to Florida law, and voters had to submit new ones for the 2026 cycle. The county expected to mail more than 165,000 ballots for this primary.

Key Deadlines for Returning Ballots and Voting in Person

Returned ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Aug. 18. Voters should sign and date the certificate envelope before dropping it off; election officials compare that signature with the one on file. Those who return a ballot early have more time to correct a missing or mismatched signature.
